Critic reviews

"Lindsay C. Gibson, PsyD, gives practical insight into a prevalent problem.... The book is impeccably clear.... This utter lack of confusion makes the book quite soothing, despite the heavy subject." ( Foreword Magazine)

I’ve been re-listening to this non-stop since I bought it. Along with other research, conversations with friends/family/my therapist and my own background in psychotherapy, it’s proved to be an extremely enlightening addition to understanding my child emotional neglect from emotionally immature and narcissistic parents. Thank you for this gift!

Clear, concise and insightful

I found it a useful book with its specialist focus. Its narrative has given me the understanding and intellectual vocabulary to understand this area of complexity in my own life for which I was seeking an answer.

This book had me stopped in my tracks. I bought it on a whim as I knew both of my parents has past traumas and thought they may fit into this category and didn’t want to follow suit. What I found was my behaviour has been a result of their behaviour to an extent I didn’t realise. Just blew my mind at times but also made me realise I need to work a little harder to level up my EQ.

Didn’t realise I was so predictable

A must read if you are at the stage where you want or need to engage in self discovery and also better understand your parents and even those you come in contact with. After all we all had parents and whether they were present or absent, the experience has helped to shape what we have been unconsciously doing. It’s time to become conscious again.

Really good book

Analysing one’s parents can be a difficult task. At least that’s how it felt prior to reading this book, as it allows you to step back and see those who parented you more objectively. It doesn’t mean you don’t love them, it just means you become aware of their limitations and more importantly, your own needs. I’d highly recommend this book.

Easy to understand and practical real life Ryos that were very relatable.
