Escape to hills high above the French Riviera with international best-selling author Jennifer Bohnet.

After tragically losing her husband, Nicola Jacques and her teenage son, Oliver, relocate to his father’s family's Olive Farm in the hills above the French Riviera. I can’t agree with the other reviews. I loved it and disappointed when it ended. Great story and I loved all the characters. I genuinely did not want it to end.

A cosy story, I didn’t have much of a problem with the narrator like others, but I can see that it could be annoying and distracting, I just wrapped myself up in the evolving yarn and found it to be a good listen.

A very enjoyable and absorbing tale of Nicola's dilemma when faced with enormous life changing decisions. The characters she meets along her new path have personal tragedies of their own that also require healing.

What a lovely story. I will keep listening to this while I m baking, or doing craft projects. A few twists and turns and lots going on . Well read , with the different voices and swapping accents. A winner for me.

This was a great easy read, not complicated and full of colourful characters set in the French countryside above the French Riviera.

The main character Nicola Jacques is married to Marc a French charity worker who seemed to put his work before his family. Even though they have a son Oliver, His need to help others seemed to outweigh his need for home life. He decides to let her go so he can persue his career. None of this is what Nicola wants but she goes along with it.

Tragically they lose him. Nicola needs to find the strength to go on. Oliver has never really known his French side of the family due to a falling out with Marc and his father.

All this is about to change when Nicola and Oliver decides to visit. During this visit there is more to it. Her father in law Henri is a formidable character and he is determined to have his grandchild Oliver live in France with or without her. He uses underhand tactics to get his way.

They live on an olive farm and when Nicola decides to relocate, she insists that she has her own place.

As time goes on we discover the things that Henri has omitted to tell Nicola and there is a spark of romance in the air, one a blast from the past and one a new possibility

There are some emotional parts and we see Oliver’s name change to the French version and Henri’s twin sisters are about to take their lives in different directions….

I enjoyed the story. I found the narration at times distraction because of the possible lisp of the narrator. She captures the story well and I did not have a problem with her French or representation of Olivier, however saying sh instead of s (was pronounced as wash etc and sometimes even at the start of the word) was unpleasant. Quite interesting someone with this problem is given the job of narrating an audio book.

I tried a sample of another book by the same author, read by the same narrator. Friends is pronounced as friendshz. I am afraid I shall have to skip audiobooks of the author unless read by somebody else.

When I started I wasn't sure if I would like it , but it hooked me in. It's a gentle and easy to listen to book, and I've already bought two more by this author , as I've become a little addicted to her tales from France . The characters were believable, and it wasn't far fetched. It didn't bring any shocks , bit sad towards the end . All in all I thought it was a nice way to pass the time while I worked. The narrator suited it , only gripe is she keeps going up at the end of words as if she's asking a question. But didn't spoil it .

Not a bad story but a bit contrived to make neat tying up of odds & ends. Narration was wrecked by appalling faux French accents & unrealistic voices.

It flows really nicely and left the book with other avenues if the author wanted to write a follow on book…. Which would be good to have.
