About this listen

FROM BEST SELLING AUTHOR ANTHONY HOROWITZ.

Susan Ryeland has had enough of murder.

She’s edited two novels about the famous detective, Atticus Pünd, and both times she’s come close to being killed. Now she’s back in England and she’s been persuaded to work on a third.

The new ‘continuation’ novel is by Eliot Crace, grandson of Miriam Crace who was the biggest selling children’s author in the world until her death exactly twenty years ago.

Eliot believes that Miriam was deliberately poisoned. And when he tells Susan that he has hidden the identity of Miriam’s killer inside his book, Susan knows she’s in trouble once again.

As Susan works on Pünd’s Last Case, a story set in an exotic villa in the South of France, she uncovers more and more parallels between the past and the present, the fictional and the real world – until suddenly she finds that she has become a target herself.

It seems that someone in Eliot’s family doesn’t want the book to be written. And they will do anything to prevent it.

Best of the trilogy!

Sad that this is the final book in a very enjoyable series. Always love the red herrings, clues, twists and the clever dual story lines. I would love to say more about the wonderful characters but afraid of giving spoilers!

Wonderful Storytelling At Its Best

Well, he has done it again. Anthony Horowitz has left me feeling bereft now that I have reached the end of another of his amazing works. Each time, I get so caught up in the characters, the storylines, the settings and the surprises that I am sad when it's over and I have to wait for another. Luckily this is one author who never keeps his fans waiting long, whether it is for a continuation novel, an entirely new series, another outing for Hawthorne and Horowitz or perhaps another in the Susan Ryeland series.

I simply love how Mr Horowitz uses new devices (atleast new to me!) such as putting characters in books within books in this series and, in the case of the Hawthorne series, is one of the main characters himself!

I love the mixture of modern day grey London and 1950s glamorous France as well as referencing the intervening years in both London and the West Country. It really helps bring the characters to life without feeling as though the book is jumping about or leaving the reader/listener feeling lost.

In this, the third of the series, Susan has another brush with peril but makes new friends along the way including a furry new addition to her household.

The narration is superb as can always be expected from Anthony Horowitz' books. I look forward to seeing Lesley Manville reprise the role of Susan in the TV adaptation in the, hopefully, not-too-distant future.

Suprising ending, again!

I enjoyed the third book, as much as the first two. Even if the storyline have similar elements as the first two, I was still surprised. Susan'S life develops and I truly enjoy getting to know her better. SPOILER ALERT I hope that this will be her happy ending, and that this will be the last book in the series even if I have become invested in some of characters.

masterpiece

I adore Atticus and Susan but I must say this book is just magnificent, probably the best of the 3. Highly recommended. And the reading? impeccable.

Excellent - best out of three

Fantastic listen - best out of three. Would highly recommend it if you’d enjoy a modern whodunit set in London.

Brilliant… naturally

Of course it is… it’s Horowitz… he’s a master storyteller. Now just sad that I have to wait months for his next release!
