About this listen

In a beach paradise, an unspeakable crime is committed. The only witness lies in a coma, fighting for her life...

Australia's Gold Coast: On a stunningly beautiful stretch of coastline, a young mother is brutally murdered and her daughter, Gabby, is left in a coma, with her life hanging in the balance.

DS Lucas Walker has just arrived in Surfer's Paradise for some much-needed recovery after injuries sustained in his last investigation. But he is soon pulled into the dark twists and turns of this home invasion gone wrong, vowing to find the men responsible.

As Walker digs deeper into the dark underbelly of this shimmering city by the ocean, a case from his own past resurfaces, with deadly consequences.

And as eight-year-old Gabby, the sole witness to her mother's murder, wakes in her hospital bed, Walker is in a race against time to stop those responsible before they return to silence her forever...

Don't miss the next instalment in the tense and gripping DS Lucas Walker series. Fans of The Dry by Jane Harper, Cara Hunter and Chris Whitaker will be hooked from the very first page until the final breathtaking conclusion.©2023 Patricia Wolf (P)2023 Bonnier Books UK

Excellent 2nd outting for DS Lucas Walker. I enjoyed more than the first book. Great narration, couple of nice plot lines / crimes, good sense of surfers paradise area and good characterisation. As with previous book on a few occasions there is a stretch of credibility and / or a naievety about Lucas and the situations he gets himself into without backup but didn’t spoil the read.

Excellent crime story set in surfers paradise

Great story

Patricia Wolf is becoming one of my favourites - I love the main character and her plots are twisty but believable. Adam Fitzgerald is a great narrator with brilliant pacing and a good tone to his voice. Can’t wait for the next one.

Brilliant story and characters

I enjoyed this book, it’s really well read, and although the story has violent bits, it’s more the tension that is built up, rather than an over the top graphical description. For me I was gripped by wanting to know what would happen next, but the story was not too believable, in that the characters are rather exaggerated, in my opinion.

Very good

I thought this was a superior piece of writing, well grounded in the modern world. The characters all rang true to me as believable. The story never dragged and always worked in a logical way. I'll be looking forward to the writer's next book.

Love a series that keeps golden threads in between books. Don’t read this book before you have read outback. A really easy listen.

A great sequel.

A likeable main character makes a welcome change from maverick, troubled or embittered detectives! The writing is skilful and there is a feel for Australian landscapes in both this and ‘Outback.’ Im looking forward to the next novel in the series.

Well written Australian thriller

I loved the first book in the DI Walker series so jumped straight into this one. As well as the great writing, gripping story lines and well formed characters, these stories depict Australia so vividly.

Thoroughly enjoying these books
