About this listen

'Jane Eyre meets American Psycho. Gloriously outrageous, sensationally unhinged' SUNDAY TIMES

‘Simmering with rage, propulsive and laugh-out-loud funny' CATRIONA WARD

'Weird and wonderful' LUCY MANGAN, GUARDIAN

Winifred Notty arrives at Ensor House prepared to play the perfect Victorian governess. She’ll dutifully tutor her charges, Drusilla and Andrew, tell them bedtime stories, and only joke about eating children. But the longer Winifred spends within the estate’s dreary confines and the more she learns of the perversions and pathetic preoccupations of the Pounds family, the more trouble she has sticking to her plan.

Whether creeping across the moonlit lawns in her undergarments or gently tormenting the house staff, Winifred struggles at every turn to stifle the horrid compulsions of her past until her chillingly dark imagination breaches the feeble boundary of reality on Christmas morning. Wielding her signature sardonic wit and a penchant for the gorgeously macabre, Virginia Feito returns with a vengeance in Victorian Psycho.

A good concept executed well. The narrator did an excellent job portraying a psychopath.

Charmingly twisted

Whoaaaa what the hell have I just read ??? 😱

Set over the Christmas period, this book is dark as hell and oh so brutal, gruesome and totally psychotic, but with loads of humour. Governess Winifred Notty is a character I m unlikely to forget! She's certainly no Mary Poppins! It is totally original and gripping. but not for the faint hearted!

Anna Burnett's narration is spot on.

Psychotic

This book honestly didn’t grab me until the end. I thought it was dark and gross but that ending. It was literally like a movie I could see it. Action packed amazing. Bravo a great debut and superbly written.

Victorian psycho: by Virginia Feito. A gothic horror with dark humour 🤎

I absolutely LOVED this book! I didn’t want it to end! 👏🏼

Winifred Notty takes a job as a Victorian governess to care for 2 children. But all is definitely not what it seems with her.

Winifred is an unhinged psychopath, she’s always had dark tendencies, she’s unable to cry & has fun creating carnage wherever she goes. I listened to this on audible & the narration was impeccable for her inner monologue it had me laughing out loud. It was so witty & unexpected the casual drop ins

And the ending, I wondered when it was coming 🫣😅

I really enjoyed this! It’s now being adapted into a movie & I pray they do it the justice it deserves!

Not for the feint-hearted or animal lovers. This was brilliantly narrated and enjoyed every minute of this disturbing, funny, horrific tale.

Gloriously Horrifying!

I loved this audiobook, as disturbing as it was it was also witty and it pulled me in! Listened to it in a day

Vile, disturbing... amazing!

Overall a dull story with little plot development, poor characters and ridiculous gore. Has none of the nuance or intelligence of tiles like American Psycho. The narrator was fine but really how do they not know how to pronounce valet? Distracting & a huge waste of time.

Lacking

If you want gore for gore’s sake then this is for you. It was not for me. Totally unnecessary book. Like a bad B movie. Great narrator tho.
